During 2025, we released 3 quizzes and the feedback we received was fantastic, so we are back doing it all again for 2026 kicking off with a STEM quiz with British Science Week in mind.

Whether you’re a hard-core ultra-competitive quizzer, or just enjoy taking part for fun, a quiz is a brilliant way to develop team work, test knowledge and have some fun at the same time.

Our quiz has been carefully designed for you to use at school, home or science club to challenge and inspire your children in a fun way.

The quiz is made up of three rounds of twelve questions aimed at 8 – 12-year-olds. Questions have been tested for suitability and to ensure there is the right level of challenge and diversity. There are rounds on General STEM, What’s the question and accidental inventions, all designed to link with this year’s British Science Week theme.

Running the complete quiz, including marking each round, should take about 60 minutes, if that’s too long you can pick and choose which rounds to use and an individual round should take about 20 minutes to run.

Questions have been chosen to test a wide range of knowledge and, in many cases, can be the starting point for further discussions or a launch point for a topic or investigation. Most questions are multiple choice, with one exception.

There are a number of different ways to run the quiz:

  • In a classroom with children in pairs or small groups.
  • Across a number of classes in a stage with children in small teams.
  • Across different stages with children in mixed age group teams.
  • Across a number of schools to crown the ultimate STEM champions.

Paul, from My Science Club, has run many inter-school quizzes across his local authority in the past and did so online for 25 primary schools (70 classes) taking part! Children work in teams in their classes, share their score through an online form then the ultimate STEM Champions are announced.

This year SmartSTEMs are partnering with My Science Club to run a live online British Science Week quiz for UK schools (Year 4 – 6, Primary 5 – 7) on Friday 13th March, 1:45pm – 2:45pm. You can register here to join 100s of schools and 1000s of children across the UK to test your STEM knowledge.
