Maths Week Scotland runs from September 22nd – September 28th and the theme is Wild Maths. As always, My Science Club are supporting Maths Week Scotland with a FREE session for educators to use at school, or at home.

For us that means getting outside, getting into nature and exploring maths in the world around us. At My Science Club we love trees and our session this year is all about measuring trees and gives children a chance to measure the height of trees using two different methods.

Method 1 involves using right angle triangles and constructing angles to measure the height. Method 2 uses a trick of perspective to measure the height. Both methods will give plenty of opportunity for children to explore the maths they know in an unfamiliar context and discuss how maths can be used in practice.

Enjoy Maths Week Scotland and we hope you enjoy our sessions.

Happy clubbing and don’t forget to tag us on your social media posts if you use any of our ideas… we might even pick someone at random to win a FREE one pack membership….
